Are you stepping out in faith?

I was reading through  Genesis chapter twelve and Genesis 12:1 caught my attention.

Here we see Abram (later his name was changed to Abraham) being called by God to leave the country he knows, his relatives and close family and venture into the unknown; a land that God will show him.  That seems awfully vague doesn’t it?

God didn’t give him instructions like walk 500 miles due south, turn right at the raspberry bush and head 208 miles where you will arrive at your destination under the oak tree. Just as in Abram’s case, his direction in my life seems very vague at times. I believe He does this for the simple reason of keeping us dependent on Him.   If we knew the full scope of where he was taking us, wouldn’t we attempt to do it within our own time table or  on our own strength and leave Him behind?  Doesn’t that spit in the face of the personal relationship that God wants to develop with each one of us?

If God did reveal the entire journey, would we grow in our faith as much? Does the struggle of not knowing or the uncertainty cause us to dig deeper into our faith and trust God more or does it cause us to walk away out of frustration? Hebrews 11:1 defines faith as the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see.  In this case Abram had confidence that what God told him would actually happen.  What a step of faith!  What has God been talking to you about?  Do you have the confidence in what God’s told you to take the next step… the step of walking out in faith?
