White As Snow
White As Snow
Feb 17
Over the past several days Ohio and many other locations throughout the U.S. have been hit with with a winter storm that has left several inches of snow. This makes it necessary to don the boots, gloves, and hat and join several thousand others in the ritual of clearing off the driveway. It’s a grand ol’ ritual; one that leaves your nose freezing and your back aching. As I was out shoveling my driveway this morning and looking around, I began reflecting on the beauty of the snow laden neighborhood. It was beautiful! As I looked across the yards where the snow was untouched by shovels or footprints I was impressed with how pristine the neighborhood
looked. There wasn’t a blot of dirt or mud anywhere to be seen. As far as the eye could see was this white blanket of snow. I was reminded of Isaiah 1:18 which says:
“Though your sins are like scarlet,I will make them as white as snow.”
Prior to the snow, you could see the brown grass, dormant from the winter months. Everything was grey, dull, and even in some places muddy. This snow came and in one sense “cleansed” the scenery and made it pristine. Through Jesus’ death and resurrection, God extends the same to us today. None of us are without sin (Romans 3:23). Isaiah quotes that our sins are like scarlet…a bright red which “muddies” our lives. If we ask Him for forgiveness, He cleanses the sins and replaces them with a clean slate, like a blanket of white snow. What an amazing picture of God’s forgiveness.
What’s your life look like? Is it bright red with scarlet or is it white as snow? Check out Isaiah 1! Scarlet can be changed to white!
