White As Snow

Posted by juills On February - 17 - 2010

Over the past several days Ohio and many other locations throughout the U.S. have been hit with with a winter storm that has left several inches of snow.  This makes it necessary to don the boots, gloves, and hat and join several thousand others in the ritual of clearing off the driveway.  It’s a grand ol’ ritual; one that leaves your nose freezing and your back aching.  As I was out shoveling my driveway this morning and looking around, I began reflecting on the beauty of the snow laden neighborhood.  Read the rest of this entry »

Are you looking to memorize scripture during the course of your day but find that you’re easily distracted from the various tasks you on your list?  If you’re like me you may find yourself sitting in front of a computer screen for 80% of your day or more.  Too bad there isn’t an easy to use tool to aid in Scripture memorization throughout the day.  Read the rest of this entry »

Are you stepping out in faith?

Posted by juills On February - 1 - 2010

I was reading through  Genesis chapter twelve and Genesis 12:1 caught my attention.

Here we see Abram (later his name was changed to Abraham) being called by God to leave the country he knows, his relatives and close family and venture into the unknown; a land that God will show him.  That seems awfully vague doesn’t it? Read the rest of this entry »

Free John Piper books

Posted by juills On January - 12 - 2010

I’m a firm believer in reading the writings of those who’ve gone before us and were considered giants or heroes of the faith.  This would include such people as C.S. Lewis, G.K. Chesterton, John Wesley, Thomas Aquinas, and more. These are men who’ve wrestled with their faith and the way it impacts their world around them.  I think from in our lifetime or soon after we’ll see the writings of John Piper fall into this category.  Currently, you can download many of John Piper’s books in PDF format at desiringGod.com‘s resource library or follow the link below.

Yesterday we started a new series titled “Everything you need to study the Bible – Super Resource List.” Today we will be continuing in the series by looking at another useful website when it comes to biblical study.  Read the rest of this entry »

One has to ask, “What did we do before the Internet?” I can remember as a kid seeing my dad study the Bible and having book after book open on the kitchen table jumping from one text to the other.  He also had this monstrous Bible that seemed to be a foot thick which contained four versions of the Bible side by side.  (In reality it was probably more like five to six inches thick.)  After almost 20 years of the Internet, most of the resources you would want to use to study the Bible can be found online at the click of the finger.

Over the next several posts, you will find a list of different sites that provide a wealth of resources for those who are studying God’s word.  If you have other sites that you use that aren’t listed here, leave a message in the comments and share with the rest of us.  To get things started, let’s look at the first site: Read the rest of this entry »
